How the test
works.

These questionnaires use public-domain IPIP items. You describe your everyday tendencies; we calculate your scores using the published positive and reverse scoring keys.

The quick test looks at five broad dimensions. The deep test uses Johnson’s 120-item inventory to add six facets within each one.

What is an ocean test?+

An ocean test describes five broad personality traits: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. You receive a profile across dimensions, rather than a fixed personality type.

Which test should I choose?+

Start with 50 questions for a broad overview in about 7 minutes. Choose 120 questions for five traits and 30 narrower facets in about 15 minutes. The questionnaires are separate; you do not need to finish the quick test first.

Are my results free?+

Yes. Both tests include free scores, explanations, and a download. Sign in to take a test; saving your results is optional.

Is a score of 75 a percentile?+

No. A score of 75 describes your responses on a rescaled 0–100 scale. It does not mean you scored higher than 75 percent of people. These tests are for reflection, not clinical diagnosis.

Where do my answers go?+

Answers and progress stay in this browser tab for up to 24 hours. They are sent to our server only when you choose to save an assessment to your account. Saved assessments can be deleted.
